30 Hours in LA

06.17.14
I am a weekend traveler. I enjoy going on short spontaneous trips! LA is just perfect for less than 36 hours trip
from where I am. My sister’s first time being away from her kids was good enough of an excuse for us to just pack up
and fly down to LA for a short stay. We spent exactly 30 hours in LA, pretty much ate and shopped through K-town,
Larchmont Village and Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice. I think we used our time wisely!! Oh! forgot to mention going
to Sung Si Kyung’s concert! That was a real treat. I’d been a huge fan of him and his songs since the 90s. He was really
great live and already excited about going to his next concert in LA! Ahahaha!

Workshop

Banchan Workshop #1

06.04.14

So it happened! Our first workshop!
Those of you who know me, I love to cook, I love to eat. There is no secret about that. Just check out my instagram
feed. 😛 I thought of this idea of inviting few of my friends over so we can cook together, share our favorite recipe
and have a little taste table to share our dish and dine together. I decided to do a banchan (Korean side dishes)
workshop because I cook Korean food the most at home and had few tricks up on my sleeves to share.
Here are just a few snaps from the event.

We had few dishes that we cooked during the workshop with a demo from three people (myself and two other

ladies) and I asked few other ladies to bring already-made dishes from home to share. We had plenty
to eat and also was able to take some home in our goodie bag.

Here is my two “acting” chefs for the day. ;D

I rented a kitchen and gallery hall at Studio One (in Tesmecal, Oakland).

Yum Yum! Dig in! That is seafood salad with black sesame seeds and savory jjussam bokeum (savory
calamari & pork) on the tasting table.

Lovely ladies that made this event special.

Since this is the first time we’ve tried having a workshop, it was a private workshop (by invitation only).
But I have a written up recipes to share with everyone. Recipes for some of the dishes that we
made at the workshop can be found here for you to download.
+ and for extra, here is a list of inspiring Korean recipe/food blogs (in English) to follow!
I’m excited to see where this is going to take us in the future. There may be more Banchan
Workshops coming up soon so stay tuned!
With Love,
Selina
